HUD-Certified Housing Counselors Available to Assist Homeowners and Renters Recovering from Maui Wildfires

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is reinforcing the availability of HUD-certified housing counseling services for those struggling to recover from the devastating wildfires in Maui, Hawaii. In addition to the national and local HUD-approved housing counseling agencies who are providing onsite and virtual assistance, this upcoming weekend – September 1-2, 2023 – Hawaii state officials will open their Insurance and Banking Assistance Center (IBAC) in the Maui town of Kaanapali, where individuals and families can speak with HUD-certified housing counselors, as well as other housing representatives, about their immediate housing needs and long-term housing recovery options.

Janet Golrick, Director of HUD’s Office of Disaster Management, is also in Honolulu this week with the Federal Interagency Recovery Coordination Team to set up the Housing Recovery Support Function (RSF) organization that works in collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), other federal partners, and state and local officials on pertinent housing recovery issues.

For homeowners and renters who need immediate housing and disaster recovery assistance, HUD-certified housing counselors are prepared and well-trained to provide guidance on the options that are available to you.
